Fellow Aiden Cold Brew Tutorial: A Step-by-Step Recipe Guide

This guide walks you through making cold brew with the Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker using its built-in Cold Brew profile. Aiden's method starts with a hot bloom, then uses a slow drip of cool or room-temperature water to produce cold brew faster than traditional overnight immersion.

🧰 What You'll Need

  • Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker
  • Thermal carafe with brew-through lid
  • Blue batch brew basket
  • Flat-bottom paper filter
  • Your favorite coffee beans — we recommend Colombia Huila light roast, ground medium-coarse to coarse. Its tea-like body, smooth mouthfeel, and stone-fruit notes of peach, honey, cane sugar, and grape make a clean, refreshing cold brew.
  • Filtered water, cold or room temperature
  • Ice or a refrigerator for chilling after brewing

👩🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Fill the water tank with the amount of filtered water you want to brew. For ready-to-drink cold brew, start with Aiden's programmed 1:14 ratio.
  2. Insert the blue batch brew basket and add a flat-bottom paper filter.
  3. Set the shower head selector to the batch brew position with three blue dots.
  4. Grind your coffee medium-coarse to coarse. If you notice overflow or excess mess after brewing, go a little coarser next time.
  5. Add the ground coffee to the filter. Keep the dose at or below 110 g when using the blue basket for cold brew.
  6. Place the thermal carafe with the brew-through lid under the brewer.
  7. On Aiden's display, select Guided Brew.
  8. Choose the programmed Cold Brew profile.
  9. Select your desired brew amount. Aiden will calculate the coffee dose based on the programmed profile and ratio.
  10. Confirm the basket and shower head prompts on the screen.
  11. Start the brew. Aiden begins with a hot bloom, then continues with a slow cold or room-temperature drip for the programmed brew time.
  12. When brewing is complete, remove the carafe. The coffee will be at room temperature, so chill it before serving or pour it over ice.

🥤 Serving Suggestions

  • Ready to drink: Serve the 1:14 profile over ice, or chill in the refrigerator first.
  • Flavor focus: Serve chilled and taste for peach, honey, cane sugar, and grape. The light roast should present a smooth mouthfeel with a delicate, tea-like body.
  • Stronger cup: Use less ice, chill first, or create a custom cold brew profile with a tighter ratio.
  • With milk: Pour over ice and add milk, cream, or a dairy-free alternative to taste.
  • For batching: Brew a larger amount, chill immediately after brewing, and store covered in the refrigerator.

🔧 Troubleshooting Tips

Issue What to Try
Basket overflow or messy brew chamber Use a coarser grind and confirm the coffee dose does not exceed 110 g.
Coffee tastes too weak Serve with less ice, chill before serving, or use a stronger custom profile.
Coffee tastes too intense Dilute with water, milk, or ice, or use the standard 1:14 programmed profile.
Coffee is not cold after brewing This is expected! Aiden finishes cold brew at room temperature, so chill it or serve over ice.

📝 Quick Notes on Programmed Settings

The programmed Cold Brew profile is designed for convenience: it enables cold brew mode, runs a 90-minute brew duration, and includes a hot bloom to improve extraction before the slow drip phase. For most users, the built-in 1:14 ratio is the best starting point for ready-to-drink cold brew.
